Our History

SEEDED.

The Urban Core Collective was seeded in 2011 by six organizations with over 350 years of service to Black and Latinx people in the Grand Rapids urban core. The Six (original member organizations) continue to facilitate access to education, health and economic prosperity for our neighbors. The UCC is a collective effort to practice a different way of being. We were not designed to be a programmatic response to systemic injustice.

The Six original member organizations are: Baxter Community Center, Family Outreach Center, Grand Rapids African American Health Institute, Hispanic Center of West Michigan, Urban League of West Michigan, and United Methodist Community House.

Rooted.

Our current member organizations are: Baxter Community Center, Family Outreach Center, and the Urban League of West Michigan.

What does it means to be a membership organization?
Membership Organizations are a type of nonprofit operating structure. Our member organizations have over 100 years combined serving the Grand Rapids community. We are honored for their leadership and guidance as we plant our roots firmly in our community.
