Why a Refuel Roadtrip?

Admitting deficiencies and asking for help is not always safe for leaders of color. Where others are coached, the vulnerabilities of leaders of color are often used to disqualify, diminish, and exploit. UCC also understands the importance of embracing diversity in learning preferences and styles. Our research shows that UCC leaders prefer experiential learning rooted in relationship. This research is congruent with what Dr. Joy DeGruy refers to as the axology of Black and Brown folks. UCC uses tactile learning, storytelling, travel, and visual approaches to leadership development and personal growth. This innovative model fosters the transfer of technical knowledge, expertise, social networks, and form communities of practice, but in a safe space.
UCC’s Refuel Roadtrips provide Black and Brown difference makers opportunities to ‘just be’, to unpack stressors and struggles of workplace life in West MI, dedicated time in community with kinfolks, and professional development to support ongoing excellence in our respective industries and spheres of influence.
